Humanitarian crisis worsens over Tindouf

  3. Humanitarian crisis worsens over Tindouf

Thousands of refugees in Sahrawi camp are at risk of serious safety concerns over the worsening malnutrition and poor healthcare.

Sahrawi residents are reportedly suffering from shortages of food and water due to the sudden decrease in the reserves of primary goods such as rice and sugar. The lack of access to basic good continues to spark outrage within Tindouf and jeopardize the lives of refugees within the camp.

“This serious food crisis is occurring as Ramadan is approaching and temperature is on the rise. This will affect the health of thousands of women, children and the elderly among these refugees,” a statement from Forum de Soutien aux Autonomistes de Tindouf Forsatine, an NGO monitoring the said area.

Forsatine also added that the decision of World Food Programme (WFP) to make a 20 percent cut of its provisions to the camps will only worsen the already depressing situation of the refugees. Poor access to nizagara-online.net medicines and drugs for anaemia and malnutrition could also endanger the lives of 22,000 women and children fighting these conditions.

Several humanitarian groups including the United Nations (UN) expressed concern over the continuous deterioration of life in Tindouf and while several efforts are made to restore humanitarian assistance in the area, only time can tell before the refugees can recover in this brink of danger brought by poverty and calamity.
